The LGBTQ-specific option on the 988 lifeline gave queer youth immediate access to trained counselors. Now, Trump is shutting it down, despite widespread support and need.
This is important coverage. As a psychologist and psychotherapist who works with trans adults and trans youth, I would ask that you do more at the very beginning and throughout to emphasize to readers that there are still LGBTQ and trans focused hotlines and resources available to the community, including youth specific ones. It is awful and deeply dangerous that we are losing this federally funded resource that has literally saved lives but I think hurting and hopeless people (ESPECIALLY young people) could read this article and think there's nowhere for them to turn. The resource list at the end is under-emphasized for a person whose ideation may be activated by the article - if they even make it to the end. And I would include trans lifeline and their list of hotlines and warm lines as well.
Thank you for your coverage and for considering how to be even more responsible to at risk youth in your reporting on this devastating and enraging development.
I’d like that full list . I’m ready to volunteer or train up to full volunteer . I know others who feel the same love of care about this . Some of us don’t have credentialing qualifications yet or at all , but a lot of experience in teen health , community support and /or social science backgrounds. it’d be helpful if we had various options for all interested in offering support - from untrained to the fully licensed PHD level . Thanks to whoever can let me know if a list has been put together !
Are there volunteer orgs that you may know of starting up in response to this measure where we can train / donate our time to help support Youth throughout this administration’s debacle ? Links or phone number’s of organizations where we can volunteer? TY

I highly recommend The Trevor Project. https://www.thetrevorproject.org
The site even has a “quick exit” option to close.
