Uncloseted Media launched three months ago, and it’s been a wild ride. Since it’s been a (relatively!) slow news week for LGBTQ issues, I thought I’d use this newsletter to pull back the curtain about our ultimate goals. Trust in media is at an all-time low and I think that’s partly because news organizations don’t pull back the curtain and divulge their goals and strategies to their audience.
For those who are interested, our raison-d'être is to be your go-to source for rigorous, trustworthy, nonpartisan, LGBTQ-focused journalism. And yes—we admit it—in 2024, that is really damn hard to pull off!
We are committed to providing you with journalism that has the sophistication and gravitas that 60 Minutes is famous for as well as the edginess and willingness to “go there” that Vice had in its heyday. We won’t shy away from controversial or taboo topics and we won’t avoid subject areas that may be critical to the LGBTQ community.
A major goal for Uncloseted is to get our stories beyond LGBTQ echo chambers and in front of all Americans who may not be seeking queer-specific news. Parents in the Midwest who may not be inherently homo/transphobic but don’t feel they have a trustworthy source for queer news. Pastors in the Bible Belt who may be looking for religious materials to help them understand the LGBTQ experience but don’t know where to find it.
We have a multi-pronged strategy on how we plan to do this and will be sharing with you some updates about this in the coming weeks.
Until then, feel free to reach out if you want to get involved or help amplify our journalism.

A slow week in LGBT issues? Those of us focused on the healthcare for transgender and gender-diverse people, especially youth, disagree. We are all scrambling to ensure people can access healthcare after January 20th, 2025. Various legal struggles nationwide have been on the front page all week! Please don't forget to cover this topic in depth. We need to reinvent healthcare systems in a fraught landscape. We need all the help and support we can get. Carolyn Wolf-Gould, MD
