An Investigative media company providing you with objective, nonpartisan, rigorous, original journalism that examines America’s anti-LGBTQ landscape and elevates everyday American heroes.
Who We Are
Uncloseted Media is a new Investigative media organization committed to providing you with objective, nonpartisan, rigorous, LGBTQ-focused journalism that examines America’s anti-LGBTQ ecosystem and elevates the voices of everyday American heroes.
The publication was founded in 2024 by journalist/ producer Spencer Macnaughton, who has worked at 60 Minutes and The Wall Street Journal and teaches LGBTQ journalism at NYU. Its managing editor is Charles Kaiser, who has worked at The New York Times, wrote the Gay Metropolis, and was a founding member of NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists in 1990.
Our Mission
Every week, we will do deep-dive journalism that uncovers the people, the money, and the power behind America’s anti-LGBTQ ecosystem and – at the same time – highlights the voices of the people fighting back against these systems of ignorance and injustice. Our aim is to be a publication for the LGBTQ community but also to break out of the queer echo chamber so we can bring critically important stories to Americans in every county in all 50 states. Through strategic partnerships with queer and mainstream news outlets, we aim to develop a diverse and engaged following.
Our Values
At Uncloseted Media, we have a set of values that guide our coverage and reporting. We believe in approaching sources with a healthy combination of compassion and skepticism. We define balance not along partisan lines, but rather through a survey of methodologically sound, evidence-based research. Rather than providing our opinion on important LGBTQ issues, we aim to present facts through receipts, timelines, screenshots, and proof. We are committed to holding the people, the power, and the money behind America’s anti-LGBTQ world accountable simply by digging in and presenting you with the truth.
